The workshops : user guide

The workshop invites participants to explore the sounds around us.
It encourages them to observe everyday objects as potential musical instruments, to record them, and to play with them.
SOUND COLLECTION

Our microphone will be the piezo – a small disc, as shown in the photo.
It is very practical to use: simply tape it to the object.
It reacts to vibrations, allowing us to collect several sounds simultaneously without interference, by striking, rubbing, or scraping, among other gestures.
Here are a few examples of sound collections:

SAMPLING
Once the collection is finished, the sounds must be organized so they can be played from a controller – the best known being an electronic keyboard with no internal sounds, but able to understand digital languages such as MIDI.
Each sound is assigned to a slot within a software tool called a sampler, which responds to the notes sent by the controller.

PLAYING
Now we can start building small musical patterns using controllers that are easy to handle.
